Waiting for Godot Essays (652 words) - Theatre Of The Absurd

Waiting for Godot Quote 1: POZZO(suddenly furious) Have you not done tormenting me with your accursed time! It's abominable! When! When! One day, is that not enough for you, one day he went dumb, one day I went blind, one day we'll go deaf, one day we were born, one day we shall die, the same day, the same second, is that not enough for you? (2.769-73) Analysis: Time within waiting for Godot is very skewed, which gets Pozzo in a fury because it seems as if time has flown by. It is true in our lives as well that time goes by very quickly because at one point we are just kids and then in a blink of an eye it seems as if we have become full grown. This quote is so significant because it emphasizes the frustration we feel as we cannot control time and therefore move toward our inevitable fate otherwise known as death. Pozzo feels cursed because he has all of a sudden become blind but in our old age as well many changes happen within our bodies that we cannot control. The most frustrating aspect of nature to humans is that it has no rhythm or rhyme it is a random act of god and we feel as if we are puppets in a higher powers play. Quote 2: "Let us not waste our time in idle discourse! Let us do something, while we have the chance!" Analysis: Humans fascination with time is based on the fact that we cannot control it. Individuals die both young and old, therefore humans try to distract themselves by using their time to do things they can control. This quote really reminded me of the whole yolo slogan because so many people loved and lived by that saying. Yes we only live once which is why humans try to get the most out of their life even though their actions may be an attempt to distract them from the fact that nature will take its course. Not to mention we all want to feel a sense of security in life but we live without that since time keeps moving. In a race to be in control with nature yolo arises which makes us feel like we have regained control and meaning in our short lives. Quote 3: "all mankind is us, whether we like it or not." Analysis: Nature takes a part in all humans life, which is why we are all so similar. Every human has the same fundamental instincts to try to survive and outlive time. If you think about it life is a game and we are the players in the game. We can try to beat the game but at the end of the day each human is in the same position because it will reach the end one way or another. We are dispensible players that can be substituted for one another because we all serve the same purpose. Quote 4: POZZO(violently) Don't question me! The blind have no notion of time. The things of time are hidden from them too. (2.702) Analysis: Humans as a whole can be thought of as blind in a sense. This is because we dont know whats to come of our lives because we cannot see into the future. In a way this is very aggravating me because we want to believe that we are the most evolved beasts on the planet. However, in a way we have no more control than the lowly animals in our kingdom who never know when they will die either. We are the predators of the universe who through technology look for a way to prolong death but have not succeeded. We are the blind leading the blind hoping that one day we will find a way to cheat death and secure our fate while gaining control of our lives.
